Shaving and daily maintenance for a beautiful bald head

If you've recently shaved your head bald, you may be wondering how to keep it in the smoothest, cleanest form. Shaving in a hot shower is highly recommended, preferable not first thing in the morning. Let your skin pores open up a little before you do your maintenance shave.

Cover your head is a nice lather of shaving gel (or soap, in a pinch). While water alone does provide some lubrication for the razor, you'll want more than that to protect against skin irritation. Mirrors really don't help with a maintenance shave - you'll only be able to see your face. Once you get used to shaving your head, you'll be able to navigate by touch.

Make sure the blade you use for your maintenance shave is sharp, preferable one-bladed. You'll want to stock up on blades, as scalp hair is much harder on razor blades than whiskers. You can usually only get about 3 good shaves out of a blade cartridge before it's time to change it.

Start your shave on your hairline to the center of your scalp. This will give you a reference point to work from .Make sure you rinse the blade after every stroke to prevent clogging and trough shaves. Work down one side of your head, drawing straight back with each pass, until you get down to your ear. Remember to take your time. Repeat with the other side of your head. The front half of your head should be done by now.

Shaving the back of your head is easier than you think. Start at the nape of your neck, all the way to one side. Place one finger along the top of the razor cartridge, and follow the path of the razor. You should be able to feel where you've missed, and go back if necessary. Draw up and behind your ears, until you reach the completed area of your scalp. Work across the back of your head this way until you've reached the other ear.

Rinse with cool water and moisturize - but don't rub the back of your head until after you've rinsed. Rubbing a newly shaved head can cause irritation. Once you've rinsed off, run your hands over your head, moving in several directions, and feeling for spots you may have missed. At this point you can just carefully run the razor over those small areas for a final touch-up. Finish your smooth head shave with a non-alcoholic moisturizer.
